This Tulsa Zoo Project remodel and addition consisted of two phases.
The first phase addressed the lack of sunlight that the plants and animals were receiving. Due to limited sunlight, zoo keepers and horticulturists were unable to maintain a healthy environment for plants and animals. They were forced to use infrared lamps as a supplement. In the first phase removed the majority of the existing roof structure, replacing it with a translucent roofing system to provide high light and U.V. levels.
The second phase of this project was to develop the interior and exterior of the exhibit to closely depict the topography, landscape, and habitat of a southwest desert region including a walk through desert model complete with natural vegetation and animal species.
