Having established an ongoing relationship with Tulsa Zoo Friends and the Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum, through such projects as The Cheetah Exhibit, The Children’s Zoo, Southwest Desert Building-Phase One Renovation, Animal Kingdom-Primate/Aviary Renovation, and a proposal for new offices for Tulsa Zoo Friends, TWO Architecture earned the commission for the state of the art African Black-footed Penguin Exhibit. This $1.35 million exhibit includes a building to house both penguin and keeper services together with an exterior pool designed into artificial geological formations with below water viewing portals. The exhibit also includes a wave generation feature to enhance and simulate a natural environment for the penguins. The building and the pool are heated and cooled with geothermal technology to encourage the Tulsa Zoo’s philosophy of conservation.
